The Gossip Girls are to jewelry trends today what the Sex and the City fab four were to yesteryear. I watch them on the little screen and off and learn. Lately, Leighton Meester has been wearing lots of Cathy Waterman's jewels at red carpet occasions. If I had a red carpet to waltz down I'd follow Meester's masterful lead with raccoon eyes, a ruched red gown and these earrings. They have a great gothic vintagey vibe and are so right now made with what Cathy calls "old gold"— that is poetry folks for recycled gold—and dirty diamonds which is cool girl talk for stones in a blackened setting. The paparazzi and press go wild.
