Belgian-born Martin Margiela became a fashion industry legend as much for his elusive existence (he stayed hidden backstage at his runway shows, refused to be photographed and could only be contacted by fax communique) as he did for his avant-garde collections. The designer has officially handed over the reins but his eponymous label is still
turning out provocative pieces like this fetish-tinged combo—a knit cotton sweater with detachable over-the-elbow leather gloves. The overall effect is both cool and comfortable, with an intangible air of Margiela mystery.
