Southwest styles have been influencing American designers as diverse as Tory Burch, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler for several seasons to magnificent effect. Now jewelry designers are starting to take cues from the region too, but few have spun the idea as imaginatively as Monique Paen. Proof: she carved the engraving equivalent to a Pendleton blanket into fossilized walrus ivory. This sophisticated piece would be perfect in the city and for my next trip to Taos.
