Donna Distefano Meteorite Ring

To celebrate Apollo 11's historic moon landing in 1969, Aristotle Onassis gave Jackie Kennedy a pair of pendant earrings with large gold balls textured to replicate the lunar surface. Aside from the former First Lady's jewels and Chanel's cosmic designs, I did not realize there was a whole genre of jewelry with an intergalactic theme. My horizons are about to be broadened by Out of this World! Jewelry in the Space Age at N.Y.C.'s Forbes Gallery. The show, which runs from March 16 to September 7, traces the influence of the cosmos on jewelry design. One of the most fascinating pieces in the dazzling display is this ring inspired by a line in Dante’s Divine Comedy, "The Love that moves the sun and the other stars." Heavenly!
